Blacklist Royals
10.09 V3.0

RBN: Congrats on making Warped Tour again. Did you have a good time this year?
Nat Rufus: Yea Warped Tour was really great for us this summer actually, we had good crowds and met a lot of cool people and saw a lot of friends I hadn't got to hang out with for a while, so yea, despite the heat we had a blast.
RBN: Do you have any memorable stories from your previous Warped Tour gigs?
Nat Rufus: Sorry man but all those records are sealed.
RBN: You signed to Paper And Plastick Records in May. How did that come about and what has it been like so far?
Nat Rufus: Vinnie started Paper And Plastick after he left Fueled By Ramen and we played a show with Less Than Jake around that time, we some mutual friends that were really pushing for him to take us on and we sent him demos from our new album for about a year and then he finally signed us. The whole concept behind the label is awesome and all the other bands he's signed so far are great, so we're stoked.
RBN: Your new album "Sember Liberi" is finished. How long did it take you to record and what kind of process did you go through to get it just right?
Nat Rufus: It is definitely a rock and roll album, we recorded the album here in Nashville with our friend Matt Drastic at his studio Drastic Sounds, I'd say we probably spend about seven weeks on and off doing it, but I can honestly say it's the first thing I've ever recorded that I can go back and listen to and be happy with. If you're in a band, you should do your next record at Drastic Sounds.
RBN: What are Blacklist Royals songs about? If there was central message or theme what would it be?
Nat Rufus: Well our songs are about all kinds of different things, for this record we tried to focus on pretty universal themes, kind of do a throwback to the music we love for the early 60's, so I'd say we usually write about life, love, the road, and heartbreak.
RBN: You guys are always on the road. How do you juggle being away with finding time to spend with family and friends?
Nat Rufus: We juggle it terribly I'm sure, we all love our family and friends, but we want to be on the road playing as much as we possibly can, so things just kind of have to work themselves out, it is hard to find a happy medium for some people though.
RBN: Have you played Chattanooga in the past? What was it like?
Nat Rufus: I think we may have played there before, at some sort of all ages Christian venue, and it was terrible, so I'm sure this is going to be awesome in comparison, I've always heard good things about JJ's and we're excited to get to play and party with the people there.
RBN: If you could play anywhere in the world with any band (past or present) for one night, where and who would it be with?
Nat Rufus: New Jersey, with Bruce Springsteen, in like, 1983, not opening, but just as guest musicians in the band, you can't open for that man.
RBN: What music do you listen to when you need to relax after a long day at "the office"?
Nat Rufus: Well I don't even have a job right now, so I'll say The Bronx.
RBN: Where can we get your CDs, merch and other info?
Nat Rufus: You can get all that info on our website and Myspace page, but everyone should really come out to the show and pick one up there!
